App Description: Wombi Detective is a crime solving detective game wherein the kids have to solve a robbery case based on the witness’s description of the suspect and analyzing clues to find the stolen items.

How We Use It: At the Children’s Museum of Houston, we use this app in the Kidtropolis Municipal Building. Kids can play detective in the Forensics department there by studying cases, analyzing evidence, looking for clues in other areas of Kidtropolis and solving crimes.

Our facilitators use the app as detective training to become an actual detective and solve crimes in the Kidtropolis. Our ‘Be The Detective’ area has a number of cases and information on possible suspects. The kids have to read the case files and looks for clues such as finger prints, shoe prints etc. scattered in other Kidtropolis areas. Then they have to match the clue with evidence in the case files and identify the real culprit. This app works as a great introduction to the detective exhibit and engages the kids’ interest in developing crime solving skills.

Project Brief

21-Tech partners study and share the effective use of Personal Mobile Technologies (PMTs) by gallery facilitators in their work with visitors. The initial three years (2011-2013) of 21-Tech are funded in large part by a 21st Century Museum Professionals award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The project is led by the Children’s Museum of Houston in partnership with Lawrence Hall of Science, New York Hall of Science, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and Sciencenter.
