Challenges with Data Collection

Here at OMSI we are still trying to gather enough responses for summative evaluation.

Why challenging?

-We are between Featured Exhibits (much of the museum is closed so there is not a big draw for non-members)

-It is the end of the school year and their are loads of school groups here.

-Folks that do fit the criteria we are looking for as far as age, groups size and not familiar with the exhibit have been few, and when we do locate them, there were many rejections.

Hope for the future:

-The Featured Exhibit opens this Saturday!

-We will try to recruit through social media or other platforms

-Most schools are out and tourists are in!

Being over deadline does not make us happy, so we will push and get done asap.  With the success we had during formative, these challenges caught us somewhat by surprise, but with the above changes and a few others will hopefully make it easier.  Fingers crossed!

Another thing we will need to think about when moving forward with an App. How should we format an App and what content should be prioritized? If we have more members and repeats visitors, do we need to have a “How-to” section as a central focus? Things to ponder!

Project Brief

21-Tech partners study and share the effective use of Personal Mobile Technologies (PMTs) by gallery facilitators in their work with visitors. The initial three years (2011-2013) of 21-Tech are funded in large part by a 21st Century Museum Professionals award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The project is led by the Children’s Museum of Houston in partnership with Lawrence Hall of Science, New York Hall of Science, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and Sciencenter.
